Best-Loved Book is Back!
This was, bar none, my favorite childhood book, and I had hundreds of books as a child. It has occasionally haunted my dreams even as an adult. I have searched for it for many years. Now that I have a daughter of my own, I am so thankful to be able to find this book again. We read it together every night, after all the other miscellaneous bedtime books. This one is really special.

The Best-Loved Doll
I had no idea so many other people had read this book as a child! I have a daughter now and couldn't find my original copy, which I know is buried somewhere in my basement. I was thrilled when I found the listing. Seeing the front cover again brought tears to my eyes. I love this book and can't wait to share it with my little girl!

My Best-Loved Book
This book was my mom's favorite book as a child, and when I was younger she introduced it to me. This book became my favorite book. It's just wonderful, for anyone who loves dolls and has a best-loved doll, this is the book for you!

Corgiville Fair

Average review score:

A perfect book for all Pembroke Welsh Corgi lovers
Anyone who is fortunate enough to live with a Pembroke Welsh Corgi will appreciate this book. The love the author has for her Corgis shines through in both the writing and the wonderful drawings. I'm so pleased that it is coming back into print.

If you love corgis you will love this book!
A wonderful children's story that could be enjoyed by everyone in the family! Tasha Tudor captures the characteristics and features of the corgi wonderfully. I bought my entire family a copy for Christmas.

Corgiville Fair: to which all other fairs are compared...
...and found wanting. I would suggest you break down and buy this in hardcover, because you'll wear out the paperback due to re-reading. Pay special attention to the details in Tudor's drawings...they're half the fun. We're still wondering what "Rooti-Kazooti" tastes like, and what was in the "Peep Show" (probably baby chicks). This book has become part of our family folklore. If something exciting and wonderful happens, someone will say "Is/was it more fun than 'The Corgiville Fair'?" And the answer is usually no. "Well, then was it more fun than 'The Bat Jamboree'?" Which is another charming childrens' book who's events we use as the second comparison.

Parakeets will love this one
I fell in love with this book years ago and couldn't wait to pass it on to my children.I picked it up recently and my 6 year old wants me to read it every day. She has been a parakeet since birth (in utero even) and loves everything that Jimmy sings and writes.

Great children's book based on the magical song!!
My parents are parrot-heads, I'm a parrot-head, and my newborn son will be a parrot-head too! This fun to read book will be the first story I tell my boy. It is a story that's filled with love and sadness, adventure and companionship, evil pirates and magical creatures. If you've heard the song, you MUST own the book.

A Pirate Looks at 4
Okay, so I read this book as an adult, but it didn't take long for some of the magic of childhood to come creeping back to me through the pages. This is a children's story the way they used to make 'em, full of whimsy, magic, and good deeds. Follow the Jolly Mon on a delightful yet purposeful journey, spreading happiness as he goes. The illustrations are beautiful and capture the vivid colors of the Carribbean and a child's imagination. This is a great book for kids of all ages. Just be prepared to smile, because once the Jolly Mon has passed your way, it'll be impossible not to.

continiously beein ahead of her time
adelle davis has been treated more than a million pregnant woman and their babies wich make her very expirienced in her 37 working years.she brings in this book all the nutrition preparations that a woman should do in order to prevent:misscarige\small babies\toxemia while in pregnancy\vomiting\and prevention of beeing depleted of milk, and much more.she explains the benefits of the mother's milk and how to improve his quality and quantity, and also what kind of nutritional supplements should be giving during and after pregnancy.also she explains what role of prevention has every vitamin in the development of a healthy baby.stages of feeding the baby such as when to give him solid food\when\and what kinds are also discovered and the book in short is dealing with all the health strategies even from before the pregnancy untill the baby becomes a child.the only thing that she recommands there that i dislike there is brewer- yeasts that she is recommand that only because of the fear that it might cause candida, all the other book recommandations are great.

Classic Nutritional Understanding for Raising Children
In this classic book for child nutrition, Adele makes understanding how to keep your child healthy so simple. Her story of how she brought both her adopted children back to health is touching and eye-opening. This is a Must Read for any Mother or Mother-to-be. It also gives you great insight applied to yourself. Keep your children and yourself healthy using information that works. It may have been published a while back but the information is still sound today. Human Bodies have not changed that much since she wrote this. In fact, doctors and health professionals just keep (re)discovering the basic truths she wrote about here. Alergies, asthma, building strong bones, preventing colds...is all here. This should be the primary healthcare book for keeping kids well. Give that index a good look. It is the quickest way to solving problems. Doctors should refer to this one and Let's Get Well first.

Tested and proven
When we learned we would be able to adopt a baby, I knew I couldn't breastfeed, so I began to study nutrition. I learned a lot, but as with any research, I learned that not everyone agreed. This was twenty-five years ago when doctors were still telling you that Vitamin E was totally unneccessary. After reading everything in our local library, I selected this book as the one that made the most sense. Following Adelle Davis' advice I raised a very healthy son and improved the health of the rest of the family as well. Now I'm looking for the book again because my daughter has misplaced her copy and is frantic to get it for my sixth grandchild--all raised on Adelle Davis, all remarkably healthy.

Anger, Acknowledgment, and Acceptance Blatant Honesty
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (01 December, 1995)
Author: E. T., II Davis
Average review score:

Stand back, then return to read again...
This book must be digested in several readings. Each time it brings different insights to the writings of this author. Davis compels the reader to walk the journey of a man, an African-American man, who dared to look at the dark side of his life and envision the beauty that can only come from a spiritual metamorphosis. He has found the courage to examine his personal hurts through his writings, subtely challenging the reader to do the same. The conclusion of the matter can be summed up in "Masculine Lamentations"...our emotions have been trampled, but yet, they gain strength. Although much of this work deals with the disparities of life one can easily discern the ribbons of hope and love interweaved throughout the last section called "Acceptance". One will continue to pick this one to read many times.

WINDS OF CHANGE
THE BOOK ANGER, ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND ACCEPTANCE: BLATANT HONESTY BY E.T. DAVIS IS JUST THAT, THE WINDS OF CHANGE. WE OPEN AAABH IN THE MIDDLE OF ANGER, OPEN HOSTILITY AND DOWNRIGHT EVIL FEELINGS. IT SHOWS A SPIRIT OF NOT TRUSTING, OF BEING DOWNTRODDEN AND BEATEN QUITE OFTEN. IT SHOWS A SPIRIT OF NOT TAKING ANY MORE, THE ESSENCE OF TRUE ANGER OVER LIFE AND HOW IT HAS BEEN DEALT OUT. AS WE GO ON WE SEE THE CHANGING OF THE SPIRIT. THE WINDS BEGINNING TO TURN AS A SHIP SLOWLY TURNS IN THE OCEAN. NOT A FAST NECK BREAK TURN, BUT A SLOW STEADY TURN AND A CHANGE OF DIRECTION OR THE WINDS OF CHANGE. MR. DAVIS MAY BE TALKING OF HIMSELF, HOWEVER, EACH AND EVERYONE OF US WHO HAVE READ THIS BOOK CAN ATTEST TO AT LEAST ONE VERSE IN THIS BOOK. KUDOES TO MR. DAVIS FOR OPENING HIS WORLD TO US. TO SHARE THE SPIRITS AND FEELINGS WE ALL HAVE HAD AT ONE TIME OR ANTOHER IN OUR OWN LIVES. TO SHARE HIS WINDS OF CHANGE.

A Serious Book.... Love it!!
Anger, Acknowledgement, and Acceptance (Blatant Honesty) is a wonderful book. I have not been able to put it down. I constantly go back to the book and re-read because it makes one think (I keep it close at hand). A few days after the World Trade Center tragedy on September 11th, as I was reading the book, I read the page titled "Culture's Destroyer". It has helped me to cope with the pain of what happened. The book is wonderful! A must read for everyone.

Digestive Wellness
Published in Paperback by Keats Pub (April, 1996)
Authors: Elizabeth Lipski, Susan Davis, and Jeffrey S. Bland
Average review score:

Well researched & thorough guide
This book begins with a guided tour of the digestive system and emphasizes the importance of a wellness diet and lifestyle in maintaining proper nutrition and health. The bulk of the book is devoted to offering hundreds of nutritional and herbal self-care ideas for digestive illnesses - including ulcers, heartburn, common cankers, Celiac disease, diverticulosis, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and IBD (Crohn's disease & ulcerative colitis). I found this to be a well researched and thorough guide to alternative solutions for digestive health problems and wellness.

Digestive Wellness
An excellent book for anyone who wonders if how they eat affects their health. As a nurse in a wellness practice, I quote Ms. Lipski all the time. This book is a must read for anyone with a chronic health problem or anyone who doesn't want to get one!

Digestive Wellness, Updated Second Edition
Not only is the list of difficulties caused by poor digestion lengthy, it includes many health problems that people don't immediately associate with their digestive process. Most people know that bad breath, indigestion, hiatal hernias, and Crohn's Disease are related to what happens in the digestive tract. Clinical nutritionist Elizabeth Lipski, M.S., C.C.N., also includes arthritis, autism, fibromyalgia, psoriasis, and schizophrenia in the list of digestion-related ailments.

Lipski cites all the latest research and studies on digestive disorders and therapies in her new book, Digestive Wellness, Updated Second Edition.

Digestion begins in the mouth and continues through the stomach and intestines to the colon. Each organ has an important role to play in helping the body break down foods so that their nutrients can be absorbed. Lipski says that "most of us don't think much about digestion unless it isn't working well," adding that "many people with chronic digestive problems continue to eat poorly, never realizing that their food choices are causing their ill health."

She starts with an exploration of the causes of digestive illness, which is often related to lifestyle choices. She then describes how a healthy digestive system works, and explains where and how the process can get out of balance. Lipski also includes information on how to pinpoint the source of your particular digestive disorder and provides recommendations and therapies for restoring wellness.

She emphasizes that each person has different biochemistry, and that what works for one will not work for another. Although health professionals can order lab tests (and she explains these tests fully), healing usually involves modifying individual eating habits. Accordingly, Lipski devotes one section to self-care strategies, with the intent of exposing readers to "more plans, new ideas, and the tools to be your own health expert."

She ends with a resource list of nutrition experts, health professionals, laboratories, and suggested reading.

Lipski says that Digestive Wellness "is about taking control of your lifestyle to increase your chances of getting healthier and more vibrant each year." It's an excellent resource for everyone suffering from any kind of digestive disorder and those who care about them.

Heart & Hands: A Midwife's Guide to Pregnancy & Birth
Published in Hardcover by Celestial Arts (November, 1987)
Authors: Elizabeth Davis, S. Wimberley, and L. Harrison
Average review score:

excellent book for midwifery students
Newly revised, this book is an old friend of mine. One of the first midwifery books I read, it covers an enormous breadth of information, yet is understandable for the beginner. It is still one of the 2 or 3 books I refer to first when I need to look something up. Elizabeth Davis just revamped and revised this book in 1997, and it is better than ever, with new sections on herbs and homeopathy, working with apprentices, hepatitis and HIV, midwifery practices, and issues of legalization, NARM, and MANA.

The book is very well-organized, with lots of excellent illustrations that make concepts easy to understand. There are many boxed areas for quick reference on herbs, and issues for pregnant women reading the book. These include questions to ask a potential midwife, self-care in pregnancy, danger signs in pregnancy, and many more. I recommend this book to consumers as well as midwives, as I think educating yourself during your pregnancy is very important, and this book is a wonderful resource.

My only criticism with the book is that the information is not very well documented- Davis will mention that research has found such-and-such, but doesn't cite the researcher or where it was published.

A Beautiful book promoting the essence of Midwifery
This tender book has given me, as a student Nurse-Midwife, a precious insight to the essence of Midwifery that has gotten lost for some. In the midst of Midwifery school where details on the hows of birth are heavily concentrated on I pick up this book when I need to 'feel' that deep-seeded passion that Midwives have for their careers and their precious patients. The text is simply written, but also complex in its coverage of many aspects of birth. Ms. Davis does a fantastic job giving an explanation to the psychological and mystical events surrounding birth. Thank goodness that this sister Midwife shares her insight and experience with those of us who are doing everything we can to learn this challenging information.

Amazingly helpful!
This *textbook* is awesome. There is so much information in here, do not borrow this book from your library! Purchasing this wonderfully helpful book is the only way to go. You won't be sorry! There are so many pictures, drawings and exemplary descriptions to assist you in your lifetime learning of this 'calling' - midwifery care and assistance.

If you're a doula - you want this book. If you're a childbirth educator - you want this book. If you're an aspiring midwife of any kind - you want this book. If you're a mother, a grandmother, an expectant parent, or a natural childbirth advocate - you too, want this book!

Guiding you through prenatal care, problems during pregnancy, the birth process, complications during labor, postpartum care for mothers and babies - this guide will last many, many lifetimes over. Included also, is information about becoming a midwife, and even setting up your own practice - or finding the right careeer route for yourself.

This is a timeless piece of artwork! Enjoy!

Imprisoned by Secrets of the Heart
Published in Paperback by Whitaker House (July, 2000)
Authors: Patricia C. Harris and Wanda A. Davis-Turner
Average review score:

Oh to be Forgiven
For this author to write this book, it had to be ordained by God. Ms Harris was able to tell her secrets to help us realize that our God is a forgiving God. Even when we don't feel we deserve it, He keeps on blessing us over and over again. I had some doubts when I was asked to read this book. I really thought it would be another of one of these self righteous books about what you better do, how to do it and what is going to happen if you don't. Ms Harris told a story that I could find a lesson for myself and a lesson to witness to others. This is a book that I have been and will continue to recommend to those who feel the need to overcome shame, guilt and doubt.

Never the Same!
I read this book and at first, I must confess, I was a little sketical, but as I read on, oh my God! This precious author, Patricia Harris reveals herself that we may be healed. The Holy Spirit uses this book to minister to deep, dark, hidden hurts that we as women never want to talk about. If you want to be healed than read this book with an open heart. Write notes to yourself as things to mind, pray and God will do the rest. He will bring life to your dead situations and heal your broken heart!

It is God's will to see all of His children set free.
Patricia Harris has given me the hope that I've longed for and searched for in believing that I, too, can be free from the shame that has kept me in bondage since my early childhood. Her transparency in revealing the details of her shame and the way she portrays the forgiveness, mercy and redemption of our Heavenly Father will only draw you closer to Him, to a place where He can minister to your own wounds. After reading "Imprisoned by Secrets of the Heart," God began to open the prison doors of my own heart, and I am now in the process of walking off the chains that bind. This book may be a divine appointment for you... don't miss it!

Garfield Beefs Up
Published in Library Binding by Turtleback Books Distributed by Demco Media (January, 2000)
Authors: Jim Davis and Elizabeth Zack
Average review score:

PERFECT stocking stuffer.
Okay, there's not many days left until Xmas but let me assure you that this Garfield book makes an excellent last-minute gift. Everyone I know loves Garfield and would be thrilled at getting a book like this.

It's rather thick and taller than usual. Plus it's in full color. As long as I can remember I've loved reading Garfield, even when I was a little kid reading the black and white pocket books. So kids will appreciate this too. Trust me.

It opens with 'Garfield's code of Nevers', such as 'Never Eat the Mystery Meat. And ends with 'Garfield's Top Ten Suggestions for New Athletic Events, such as 'The Fridge Lift' and 'Eat till you Explode'. Crammed inbetween are hundreds of hilarious comic strips. Plus there is information on the last page on how to join the Garfield fan club. And why not?

Another laugh riot from Garfield
I was so used to the old format in the Garfield series, black & white and the book being vertical. Nevertheless I enjoyed Garfield and his constant abusings of Jon and Odie. Reading Garfield in this new format of color and in a taller book form was a pleasant surprise. I can never tire of Garfield and all his antics, especially when he is swatting spiders. I may be inching towards 30 but I will never stop buying Garfield books. As long as he keeps me laughing I'll keep buying.

Garfield, not just another fat cat
I still can't believe after all these years he's still going strong! The first book i ever remember reading was "Garfield Takes The Cake" i learned to read on these things! However, i must admit that Jim Davis is starting to run out of ideas. Lately all of his books are about how mentally challenged Jon is, or redo the same lines over and over. The spark is stll there, but its somewhat dimished. This book is still great, but if you look back at the earlier ones you see Garfield coming up w/ better ideas to pass the time (like "Ameoba Man" and "The Sludge Monster" or who could pass up all of Garfields vacations?). Also some of the ideas have changed. In the beginning Jon was a cartoonist, Lyman lived with Jon, Odie was Lyman's pet, and Nermal also used to belong to Jon's parents, those are just a few differences. The book itself has changed too,i like the new color format and all but i kind of miss the black & white version. All in All Garfield is STILL the greatest comic strip ever created, its a must read and he keeps you laughing.
